OFFLINE | Yeah, it has the kid from Fright Night in it too. That's another movie I really enjoyed. Fright Night 2 is good as well. |

Yeah, I went into it completely blind. It sounded horrible, so we rented it from Netflix. I can safely say I will never be watching part 2 or 3. (He said it would be a triology.) |

I haven't actually seen 976-Evil in like, two decades I think I'll rewatch it soon. I wonder if they've already remade this one too though ffs. Or Demons...I think I'll have to Google that later. |

OFFLINE | Alright, I hear a lot of people saying things like "I don't really like zombies anymore", "Zombies are played out" or "Zombies are too mainstream". So let me ask you guys, how do you feel about zombies then/now and why?
I'll start. I love zombie movies. I have since I was like 9 or 10 and saw George Romero's Night of the Living Dead on I think it was TBS's Saturday Shocker. Scared the **** out of me, but it really got me interested in the scary stuff. Matter of fact it spawned a reoccuring nightmare that I still get sometimes.
First I'll say I don't give two shits if other people like what I like. Is it cool? Yeah, gives me something to talk about with that person. But it wasnt the reason I started liking it. So just because more and more people start liking something I've liked since I was 10 years old (well...liked is a misleading word, fascinated and horrified by would be more of an appropriate description for back then lol) I should stop liking it? Why should I care how mainstream it's become. All I can hope is that the special affects will continue to get better and or be so awesome (in some movies) that they make me go "**** yeah!". So, no, I'll never get sick of the zombie thing. I'm enjoying it for as long as I can before movie makers move on to the next big thing and stop writing checks for zombie flicks with decent fx budgets |

OFFLINE | I happen to love the zombie genre myself but the thing is it's become as trendy as the whole vampire thing and that's why obviously we have such utter fecal matter like the Twilight franchise. Will I ever lose interest in zombies? Probably not but I tell ya one thing, the day Hollywood manages to come up with a franchise involving living corpses falling in love having corp-lets together or perhaps manage to conceive a romance between a Hilary Duff wannabe and a male hot throb whose supposed to play a dead bad boy or something then that's when I'll stop expressing any remote interest. Basically as long as Hollywood steers clear of the genre and doesn't make an unintentionally humorous spectacle out of it like they managed to do with Mariah Carey and/or Paris Hilton then chances are there's still some life left in the zombie genre. I mean, as it is there's still a few angles that are left to be explored like the social, political, philosophical angles that a lot of directors don't seem to touch on because they're too preoccupied with the exploitative side of it. Yet gore is overrated and therefore I would love to see, for instance a director come up with a plot that tackles a racial angle. Like, would whites and blacks in an urban neighborhood put their differences aside and work together to survive or would the zombie outbreak be an excuse for the black community to rebel against the whites due to believing that it was the white 'corporate' types that had something to do with unleashing an outbreak (insert conspiratorial aside here). Yeah, sounds crazy but if you think about it, there's a number of angles that could be explored if conceived properly. Just sayin' |

OFFLINE | I think that the most scary parts in these movies is always when someone wakes up like at the end of Resident Evil 1 or the Sheriff in Walking the Dead, all alone at some institution or hospital. All your friends are dead.
They have no clue about what's been happening while they'd been unconscious and they goes out into a society that has fallen apart. The creepy silence and the feeling of being the only normal person left on earth *uhu*...

OFFLINE | Lisa, I always feel more tense about the character that has no clue what the hell happened like that. It does add a sense of urgency to their stumblings, and you wonder if they'll make it through that first lesson unscathed (even though they alwayd do LOL!).
Rob, have you seen Romero's 'Survival' yet? He did touch on that racial aspect already, (and I suspect his next might go a little heavier into it) but that point seemed to have sailed right over a lot of people's head. After I'd seen it I was like 'Great, now they'll be calling Romero a racist'. Yet not too many people noticed what I noticed it seems.

OFFLINE | To me, the living dead (you'll notice I never use the word "zombie") popularity explosion almost seems like a retaliation to the vampire explosion... Like after Twilight came out, a lot of true heads were like, "**** this ****, pseudo goth bullshit, zombies is what true horror fans wanna see."
Then, when popularity is noticed and the style becomes mainstream homogenized, that forces the underground to become more experimental and embrace more creativity in the style.... Which is why I'm not concerned about it's current trendiness. Besides, if it weren't for the trendiness, we wouldn't have The Walking Dead, which is shaping up to be a brilliant show. |

OFFLINE | Cari; yeah, thank God for women like Alice who smack em' around a bit and then dash off, ready to conquer the next heap of meat, lol. The sequences with her involved gives one at least a paus to breath because we know she will keep on to the bitter end, lol.

OFFLINE | Has anyone else here been watching the Dead Set mini-series? About a zombie break out and the British Big Brother? It's quite entertaining so far and sometimes pretty...smart. I've seen 3 of the 5 episodes so far. I tell ya what though, the one common demoninator in all these new zombies shows seems to be infidelity. But I guess it's always made for good TV drama in the past.
Speaking of, I'm a week behind on the Walking Dead :-( but I got to see the second episode last night and I am really liking it so far. I think the love triangle between the two cops/wife is going to come to a head sooner than I'd thought. But what really made me laugh was after seeing them talk about the undead smell, how zombies can tell they're alive because we smell as strongly to them of life as they do to us of death. When they smeared themselves up with zombie goo I was thinking JD should watch this, this is exactly what he said his big gripe with zombie movies was. I can't help but feel like this isn't the last time we'll see the racist that they left on the roof. For a TV series, this is pretty fast paced and has a lot of **** going down rather quickly. .

OFFLINE | Ahhh! Zombie! Rob...don't watch this movie. You said it, turns out they did it ;-p About three quarters of the way into it, it does slow down and get sappy, but overall this was a fun and very different zombie movie. It will keep you entertained and even make you laugh out loud. Shot about 40/60 in B & W (to differentiate realities) helped make it more interesting to watch. This flick takes you through an outbreak from the zombies POV and it's a neat way they did it. Overall I would have to recommend this movie...even to you Rob (watch close @ 1:44 in the clip LMMFAO!).

Admittedly I haven't seen anything Romero related post - Land of the Dead. I am just afraid of having my utmost admiration for the man shattered into thousands of pieces, that is considering how sub par the quality of his work appears to be when compared to milestones like Dawn and Day of the Dead which really saw the man at his peak. Though I might just take a look see for curiosity's sake.
Speaking of Land of the Dead by the way, was I the only one somewhat disappointed by that particular entry into the franchise? Showed a heck of amount of promise but I just didn't get the black dude zombie 'roaring' and growling like a road warrior bit, that is among other things that came off a bit too silly. |
