Oh dude! Yes! Granted the book is better but the film version did a good job conveying a lot of creepiness. That one scene where Shelly Duval's character is trying to escape the hotel at the end and she encounters that one vision where some dude/ghost in a dog/bear costume is blowing some other old dude really got to me when I first saw this at the tender age of six. You know which scene I'm talking about, right?

Of course. I've seen the movie many times over the years.

This flick describes the vampires like the loathsome and primitive creatures they are. Not like good looking babe magnets, who roll themself in riches.

...and this is probably the worst crap that has ever been made in this bloody genre. Swedish Vampires - yeah right!
I remembered that I dragged some poor bastard with me to go and see it and i felt SO ashamed, when I realized what kind of crap it was. It felt almost like i was responsible for have made the film haha...

Off the top of my head I'll do you one better and say:

50's: House on Haunted Hill

60's: Night of the Living Dead (Last Man On Earth runs a close 2nd)

70's: Jaws (**** you, this one IS horror! It literally scared millions of people from the water IRL, THAT'S horror!)

80's: Oh, so many...Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm St, Night of the Demons, Friday the 13th, the Howling, Halloween, the Fog, the Thing....80's I can't name one ;-p I could go on and on.

90's: Mmm, maybe Dead Alive

00's: Dog Soldiers & Diary of the Dead

10's...I'm still waiting.

I'll definitely go with Night of the Living Dead as a nominee for the best horror movie of the 60's, myself. I don't care what anyone else says but that movie was way ahead of its time for the era it came out in.

Wasn't it also the first US movie to show a naked woman in the theatrical release?

I believe so. Then again I'm only about 80% sure of that though. Nevertheless this is THE zombie movie that set the whole zombie craze in motion. Then again I like to believe that Romero's movies in general pioneered the zombie phenomenon. Having said that, I just hate how 'trendy' it's become to capitalize on it the same way vampires often are and now I can't stand anything even remotely zombie related at this point, lol.

Though I'll admit that I'm excited about The Walking Dead series that's being premiered on Halloween but I guess one of the main reasons why I'm showing any interest at all is because for once it's not some exploitation fare bent on the carnage factor but rather focused more on the human  response and inherent flaws in people that are exposed during such a crisis which I'm surprised no one has ever touched upon ever.

To a point I agree, but I still love zombie movies. The Walking Dead is based on the comic book I guess. I hadn't read it but I hear it was very good, sticking to Romero's zombie-rules. I can't wait to see it either, but I'll have to wait till next Saturday :-(

I saw the cutest shirt the other day. It said "Don't worry, incase of a zombie outbreak you have nothing to fear. They only eat brains."

BTW, have you seen Mulberry St. yet? I highly recommend watching it. I like the twist and for low budget, it's done rather well.

Actually, Josh if you're referring to Dead Alive, no that one was released in like '96.

As for the one Cari mentioned, Mulberry St.? No, haven't seen it but it looks like I'm going to have to google it now!
