I married right out of high school and was in that relationship for 24 years before I escaped.  I call it my 'prison camp' experience. He was an angry and unloving, unhappy man who spent our time together making sure I didn't think I had any value in any way.  I bought it for a while. Funny how that happens.  Then I was in a relationship for 6 years with a man who seemed the opposite.  Very loving and he adored me and everything about me, (everything I had never had).. and still does when he is sober but hates me when he is drinking.   He is a Jekyll and Hyde alcoholic.  He hasn't had what it takes to stop drinking... not even when it meant losing me.  I had to give up the good to get rid of the bad on that relationship for good in 2007.   I learned a lot from those relationships about men, about people (my religious family turned on me when I divorced... the unforgivable sin, doncha know?) and about myself and I continue to. Good and bad.  

I never understood this or why it's considered a sin. It always seemed more sinful to me to deny the fact that human beings make mistakes and a divorce is one of many methods to work through and get past mistakes. Also, it seems sinful to me to deny that fact that bad people do exist, and to deny a person the right to divorce a bad person whom they only realized was 'bad' AFTER they were married. This to me has always felt so suspect.

When me and my ex divorced in 2005, I think one of the biggest things I learned was that it was necessary for me to really know 'me' before ever feeling free to be available again. Combined with that, my marriage taught me so much about what I didn't want in a relationship.

LOL! Gotta agree with you two...I hate shaving too...and I most certainly would hate having a beard..however, I DO like my man to have a beard...I mean ...when and if I get a man...

life seems to be getting harder to me

My daughter is planning to be here in 6 weeks to visit.  I haven't seen her in over a year and a half.  I'm so excited!
