Arizona Congresswoman Shot in the Head at Public Event

Eight others were shot, including three of the Arizona Democrat's aides, at Giffords' "Your Corner" event held at a Safeway grocery story. A suspect is in custody.

Giffords was taken to a hospital but the condition of those shot was not immediately known, a senior congressional aide told Fox News.

The three staffers who were shot worked out of Giffords' Arizona office.

Giffords has held multiple "Your Corner" events over the past four years, the aide told Fox News, adding that she had held three previous events that this venue before.

Giffords was re-elected to her third term as representative of Arizona's 8th Congressional District. She is married to astronaut Mark Kelly.

I just read that she died.

They should skin the bastard and douse him in alcohol and let him writhe in misery before lighting the match.

Now I'm hearing she's still alive and in critical condition.

Thank God.

Our prayers go out to her and her family.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE! I don't even care what the shooter's reasons might have been, I think a very harsh example needs to be made here.

Our prayers should be with the families of the fallen, including a 9 year old child and a Federal judge.

I just read the same thing somewhere, 19 or 20 or something like that. I'm wondering how many other teenagers are able to get their hands on automatic weapons :/,,, Can you freely find automatic firearms online?

It was a semi-automatic and in Arizona that's really easy to get if you have the money.  If it's a store and it's a rifle...it's walk in, pay for it and carry it out.  If it's a store and it's a handgun...it's walk in, wait 10-15 minutes while they do a quick felony check on the phone, pay for it and carry it out.  If it's a gun show, which is somewhere in the state about every month...it's the same without the phone call for handguns.

This will upset a lot of people who are itching to mold Saturday’s tragic shooting in Tucson, Ariz., into a club to be used for political advantage: we don’t yet know what motivated the alleged gunman, Jared Lee Loughner. But don’t tell this to writers in the blogosphere where blame for the shooting has already been assigned to everyone from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to Tea Party activists, as Howard Kurtz noted on "The Daily Beast" in a great piece on the rush to score political points that routinely follows tragedies.

What is known about Loughner at this point is sketchy at best and certainly doesn’t pigeonhole him as a devotee of a particular political ideology. The incoherent YouTube videos allegedly created by Loughner certainly don’t, nor does his alleged MySpace page where the books he lists as his favorites run the political gamut from hard left to hard right and include “The Communist Manifesto” and Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf.”

I've seen some article making a link to Sarah Palin's "Crosshairs" thing in this article:

I've never heard of "Gawker" though. I could just be one more content mill with unreliable content.

No matter what his political ideology is or isn't, two horrible things happened.

The first was this troubled young man assassinating and attempting to assassinate others, which he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. If it was up to me that would still not be enough of a punishment but fortunately for him I am not making the decision.

The second is people who had no idea what may or may not have been going on in this young man's mind trying politically assassinated others through innuendo, speculation and outright lies trying to tie him to their political opponents without even the slightest tidbit of evidence or remorse.

We need to continue to pray for the recovery of those who were hurt and comfort for the families of those who were lost. And if one is not into prayer then please continue to send your good thoughts and wishes out as well.

we already have a problem.

A Democratic Congressman plans to bring in a bill to outlaw violent symbols targeting members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Senate, or the judiciary.

In an inteview on CNN, Robert Brady (D-Penn) said he wants to make it a federal crime to use threatening language or symbols against federal officials. “All we are trying to do is protect ourselves and our staff members,” Brady said.

When asked when the legislation would be brought forward, he replied it would be on the “first day when we go back in session”. . . .

Brady hinted that a controversial map created by Sarah Palin’s political action committee—which featured targets on 20 House districts—would be illegal if his proposal is adopted.

The map included Arizona’s eighth district, which is represented by Giffords in Congress.

The CNN interviewer pointed out that Palin’s map only featured symbols over top of districts, but that didn’t dissuade Brady from taking a hard line. “Everyone knows who represents that district,” he said.

another nail in the coffin for our freedom of speech. fear trumps freedom every time.
