What would really make your Valentines Day truly special?

For me, it would be simply spending uninterrupted time with my best friend - away from people and ishness.

Not being alone. Valentine's Day sucks for me. My brother killed himself 3 years ago this month, my dad died 2 years ago this month, and my divorce was final one year ago this month. I'd be happy for this month to just be over.

I'm not a fan.... and this has not been a good month for me.

Take me away to a sunny beach, let me forget the world for a month. I'll love you forever.

To me Valentines Day does not have to be about romance ...

I'll focus on the positives and enjoy my kids and the rest of my family and all my wonderful friends  ... the weather is supposed to be lovely.  Not having a one someone special does not bother me (today ... lol) ... it's in my future ... but right now, it's just not in the grand plan.

I'm okay with that ...

Not being alone but I can say I'm in agreement with Teri's sentiment.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well.

For me, it's WAY more about feeling special than it is about gifts.  Having a nice bath poured for me, the candles lit, and a glass of wine brought to me would totally do it for me. Yeah, it's nice to get a card and chocolates too, but its the affection that I crave.

for me, it is just another day, the kids wanted video games and candy, in=magine that ! lol

I never expected much even when I was in a relationship.... it always seemed kind of silly to have one day pointed out when your made to buy and or do something or take you somewhere..... you should be doing special little things here and there throughout the year anyway, why only once a year?

but thats just my 2 cents on the subject .....

valentine's day is just another consumer-driven holiday, meant to stimulate spending and fill the void in our lives. if you love someone, do you need a specific day to show them?

oh, and happy valentines day...

I think it's good for business that holidays are so commercialized. But it has an obvious effect on many people's attitudes towards holidays. That in mind, I like most of these holidays and i love the people I'm close to whom I share in them with. So even though this commercialization dysfunction exists, I say let that dysfunction exist outside the home so that our own unique holiday values can be peacefully experienced with our loved one's.

Ok so after reading all the negative comments about the commercialization of Valentine's Day, let me add to my prior post.

Right now I do not have someone in my life BUT if I did you bet your bippy we would celebrate and he would treat me like the Queen I am ... and  he would be my King and get some special "royal" treatment.  Certainly we would treat each other with respect and love every other day of the year but like any other holiday, Valentine's Day can be the day to outwardly show affection through means other than the good and respectful treatment of each other you practice daily.

That being said, just because it's there ... doesn't mean you have to partake.

For me, when in a relationship ... Hell yeah ... bring on the big red cards, candy in huge heart shaped boxes, flowers (lillies are my favorite), jewelry, "our" favorite restaurant and so on ... I'm in ... just not this year.
