OFFLINE | I've been considering having Lasik this year. I wear contacts and my eyes are getting increasingly bad. My eyes are so dry that even wetting drops do not help. Has anyone done it ? Let me hear your experiences ... good or bad. |

OFFLINE | I had Lasik about 5 years ago and I'm due for another adjustment. I had one eye done for reading and I've enjoyed it to a certain extent. I've got a small bit of halo thing that happens and it makes it a little difficult to drive at night but I DO enjoy not having to cart around reading glasses everywhere I go. |

Thanks, Miss Jane ! Is it common to need "adjustments" in that short of time ? I get halos too ... glare at night is awful but from what I understand, the procedure cannot help that.
I do the mono-vision thing with contacts right now. One eye is corrected for nearsighted and the other for farsighted. So I would anticipate the same deal with the Lasik. I'm going for a consult in a couple weeks. My vision plan gives a great discount and I've set aside funds through my health flex plan ... sooooo, now all I have to do is decide. I made the mistake of watching a few videos on youtube.com ... Eek ! |

Thanks Jann ... I'm really leaning towards doing it. Tired of contacts and the dryness ... and glasses never are quite right for me with this nose. |

OFFLINE | Teri I knew going in that I would probably need adjustments so that wasn't a surprise. Something about the measurement of my eye causing the adjustment to "slip". The surgery is really no biggie and not needing reading glasses is wonderful. |

OFFLINE | When I was living in St Croix I was considering having it done because the sand was kicking up all the time irritating my contacts...I'm still thinking about it, because I'm tired of wearing them....and it seems I'm always having some issue with them...I actually lost one the other night while dancing...LOL...(freak happening...)
Teri...one of the things I read while researching is if you have severe dry eye sometimes that is a factor in them not doing it...I don't know if that will be a problem for you...

OFFLINE | Thanks for the advice everyone ... I've made my consult appointment. So we'll see in a couple weeks.
I've not done enough research yet on my own ... perhaps this weekend.
Susan ... had not heard about the dry eyes being a problem but I'll surely put that questions on my list ... Tnx !!! |

OFFLINE | Teri, I had lasik in 2001. My vision was awful! It was 20/200, had worn the thick glasses all my life. It is so great not to have to deal with them any more. They adjusted my vision so that it put off needing reading glasses. I still don't need them...yet. Lasik will dry out your eyes (lasers are a form of heat), I remember putting drops in my eyes for a while afterwards. That would be a good thing to check on, just to be safe. Good luck. |

Teri .. do it!!! if you find out you are definately a candidate..trust me..you will never regret it!!! I had it done like 2003 ...!! my right eye was like 20/1000 or something crazy like that.. and the left eye..was 20/200.. i had astigmatism issues.. my contacts were just not correcting enough.. i had lasik done and have been so happy to not have to wear contacts/glasses anymore.. now..with me.. my right eye has gotten worse since then..and i can see it slipping.. but cant get any adjustments because my corneas were too thin. but since the right eye isnt as good.. it self corrected for Reading!!! so at 51 i can still read pretty good without any bifocals.. tho reading in the dark is tough and newsprint too..the halos were kind of strong right after the surgery..but now..its pretty much gone..i have a tiny issue with fuzzy lights..but dont really notice anything worse than before the surgery at this point. the surgery its self.. was a piece of cake!! id do that 20 times over compared to what the denist chair does to me!!!!!!!!!!!!! do it..if u can.. you wont regret it.. follow the doctors instructions to the T and you wont have a problem after its over!!! its a miracle..that this kind of thing exists..and will make your life so much more enjoyable all said and done!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

OFFLINE | I think Lasik sounds awesome but I'm so used to my glasses that I'd feel lost without them. |

OFFLINE | Thanks so much Diane ... great information
Donna ... there are some people who pull off the look of glasses (you being one of them) ... I've never found a pair that look just right on me ... not to mention the bridge of my nose is huge so I almost need them custom made ... pain, I tell ya. |

oh god..not me..lol.... i never ever missed those horrid things on my face!! ok.one if the best features of having the lasik..was going to the beach or the pool..not having to tote a pair of glasses..oh yeah. sunglasses do go with me still ..but when i go in the water...i can still see!! i dont have to worry about contact peeling off my eyes in the water..or not seeing where i was going without the glasses... |
