this is an illustration of the battle between our primitive urges, and the higher ideals our society is based on.

I don't believe that all human beings share all the same primitive urges. For example; usually when I hear a person discuss their ingrained desire to 'spread their seed', it feels like they're actually trying to excuse their unconscionable sex-addiction.

man is man is man. some may be more able to control their urges, but all people have the same ones. i don't think human nature can be discounted. there's a reason history continually repeats itself, and that's because we all want, fear, and need the same things. in fact, the only reason that adultery (which is a human invention) is seen as wrong, is because we say it is. in nature, "spreading the seed" isn't good or bad, but necessary. our "morals" are our own contraptions. they don't exist except for in our heads. a lion killing the cub of a rival male isn't a murderer, it's just a lion. a cat toying with a mouse isn't being cruel, it's just being a cat. but because we are sentient, we can set standards for ourselves. this however, doesn't mean that such standards are inherent, they're just ideas.

in fact, all of the societal standards we have, are just the continuation of ideals passed down from our ancestors. morals are purely subjective when viewed through the prism of the rules of nature.

A good friend of mine (who is a self-professed pig) once said that men are as loyal as their current options ... Ugh.   Yep, I'm finding it to be true for some men (strike that, people).  Some want to be with that special someone, forever ... some want that special someone just for the time they want them (it) and then to move on.

To me, the trick here is for those people of a like mind (desire) to find each other and not get sucked into the thrill or whatever of the opposite group who perhaps is not so committed to the long term.

As far as having the decency to wait until one relationship is over to start another ... it's something I've always agreed with.  Problem is, most are not thinking of the partner they are committed to whilst rolling with the new object of their desire.

In your text above that I've highlighted, it reminds me of the age-old question; where are all the good men/women at? I've seen some people respond to this in a sense that I think they might be offended by it. I can't help asking why that might be, but it's certainly something I'd make a mental note of.

Anywho, I personally feel/think the trick of this, for those seeking the 'good men/women', is actually to quit actively looking. This might seem counterproductive at first glance, but if a single & available person prioritizes themselves with healthy living, then I think this improves their likelihood of crossing paths with that 'good' person they might have otherwise been actively looking for. But the thing about this is, I think it's necessary to be at peace with BEING single with the understanding that the length of their singlehood is indefinite.

Regarding "men are as loyal as their current options", I've heard this and many things similar and one thing typically seems to resonate commonly here; they're projecting, something else I tend to make a mental note of. I get the feeling that some of these people insist that all men/women's minds work exactly as theirs does, and I really feel that's not true. But if these people tend to see every other person as extensions of their self, then it makes sense to me that they're unable to acknowledge thoughts, feelings, and opinions that differ from their own. Again, something else I can't help making a mental note of.
