Think about it like this Prateek. If the girl is a virgin, and she has sex, then she gave up her virginity. While the guy took her virginity.

I think its because when couples talk about sex... its typically seen as the guy trying to talk the girl into having sex. In a general sense, the girl is more skeptical... Therefore, people consider she lost something because he successfully convinced her to do so.
