OFFLINE | To borrow books from the library using www.overdrive.com you have to have a valid library card and pin number for that library. You will also need to do an internet search for Adobe Digital Editions, download and install ADE. These instructions are also valid for sideloading books from other places, such as inkmesh.com and smashwords.com.
Once ADE is installed on your computer, you will close the program. Connect your device to your computer using the usb to mini usb cord provided, minus the chunk that plugs into the wall. Make sure that the device is ON and awake. Open ADE on your computer. You will get a screen that asks you to “authorize” and/or “authenticate” the device. Click yes and follow the onscreen instructions.
In the left side of the screen, you will see a drive come up that says Nook or Nook Color, depending on what device you have. That is where you will eventually drag and drop your books.
First, you will add the books to your ADE library. Click where it says “Library” in white letters with the little arrow pointing. Choose the option to “Add Item To Library” or you can press CTRL O. You will then retrieve the file from the area where it was saved. Many people have options as to where their books are saved when they download them, choose desktop if you have that option. Books that I download automatically go into my downloads folder.
Your downloads folder is at Start Menu > Computer > C: > Users > Your Name > Downloads
Now that the book is in your ADE library, you will transfer it to your nook. Highlight the book(s) by either clicking on it or using SHIFT and the up and down arrows. The SHIFT and arrows are useful for when you’re putting more than one book onto your device. Once your book(s) are highlighted, click on them and drag them to the left side of the screen where you see your device. Then unclick and allow them to transfer over. The length of time for this varies depending on the speed of your computer and how many books you are transferring.
You have sideloaded your book(s)!
