well, honestly, i don't think IQ or an ivy league education counts as much as common sense and life experience. when it comes to president, i would much rather have someone who's built or run a company, served in the military or produced something, than a career academic. |

Show me a trailer trash hick in Alabama and I'll show you 10 ghetto gangsta, HUD-dependant, welfare abusing groups of folks living in the PJs.
*Sigh* We've been fighting against these stereotypes for decades.
Are the southern states counted as "flyover country"?
I guess so since he specifically mentioned my State (Alabama).

The Irish are all little leprechaun people who live in thatched cottages with farm animals rnning around in the parlour, and are all either drunk or doing Riverdance the whole time, but that's ok because half of americans think they're Irish anyway.
Half of us are at least descended from the Irish.

so someone traveling abroad and all the "diversity" makes someone more qualified to run oklahoma, than an oklahoman?
I think having exposure to a greater array of ideas (that 'life experience' you where talking about) could help one be a better administrator. I imagine its fair to say the average Oklahoman probably doesn't have what it takes to lead Oklahoma (not to say they are not qualified to play a role in governance by voting, but just not leading). |

One could say that about anyone part of the country though. The average New Yorker probably would not make a good senator of mayor of NYC. Education does have its advantages. The disappointing thing, however, is that (some) folks think that folks in the heartland are ignorant hicks. The REALLY disappointing thing is that some folks in here that I thought were friends think the same thing.

OFFLINE | well just who do you think represents conservatives? people with college educations. but that's not what we're talking about. we're talking about the attitude on the part of many of the creme de la creme, that DO view everyone else as incapable of self-determination without their help. and these people fill the rosters of the government and the media elite. and this isn't just a liberal thing. look at g dubya. hell, he and his old man went to yale, and they - along with the rest of the new wave neo-cons - represent this same establishment on the republican side. |
