Darren, are squat/bench/power racks a rarity in KK? Most of the Fitness First and True Fitness branches have equipments for bench press and squat. Not sure about Celebrity Fitness as I haven't been there before. Gym Rakyats here have the said equipments too. Haven't seen a lifting platform before, but most of the people here deadlift at the free weights area.

Squat racks and benches are pretty standard at the 2 big gyms in KK (Core and Likas Gym).

Its the lifting platforms that are hard to come about ANYWHERE in Malaysia.

Alot of the commerical gyms for some reason use these STUPIDLY designed squat racks with fixed safety bars that are so high even a 7ft tall person would smash his hands on if doing a proper squat below parallel.

You can deadlift on rubber mats with some carpet pads or yoga mats on top, but this isn't ideal as the bar tends to bounce after each rep, as opposed to the platform absorbing the impact.

Pushmore has squat stands, but not squat racks.

Besides, they're a Crossfit establishment so they're more into WODs rather than 'independent workouts'.  I could be wrong though.

Kev, can I put my apartment in the list... seeing that I have a squat rack at home? Hehehe

I found one gym that is suitable to do Squat, Deadlift, Benh and overhead press at S2 Wangsa Maju. Quite small and packed during peak hour but thts the only gym I've found so far that suitable for above exercise. Its called IRON GYM.
