Based in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, For the Love of Dogs was founded by Newfoundland's Dog Whisperer, Ken Reid, and is aimed primarily at previous students of Ken's and Topsailstar Pet Centre's dog training. The group is open to everybody who has a dog or who has an interest in training, working with, bonding with and developing an overall positive relationship with their dog. Group Admins are Ken Reid, Janine Colbert, Cynthia Lahey, and Heather Stevenson Matthews.

Posting:

Please ask permission from one of the Admins prior to promoting a business or organization, and even fundraising efforts. Any soliciting posts that go up without prior approval will be deleted, no exceptions. This is to ensure that any businesses, organizations, and fundraisers posting in the group are legit, with quality products and information approved by Ken so that you know you can trust them.

We have permitted posts about missing dogs in the past, but have decided to disallow them from now on since there are other sites specifically for that purpose and it gets confusing for searchers to have to check various groups for new information. You can check the Files section for a list of groups you can join to help find missing pets.

Please be respectful of the group and each other. Any derogatory posts directed at another member, local business or organization such as vet clinics and rescues, will be deleted. Continued disrespect may lead to you being banned from the group.

Walks:

These rules are in place for the safety of you and your dog so that everyone can enjoy the walks! If you share the Event information with other groups for the walks (breed groups, dog groups, friends, etc), please ensure that you also make them aware of these rules and include the rules in your shared post or instructions on where to find the rules. It is imperative that everyone who participates in the walks have read and understand them.

Please keep in mind that all dogs have had different life experiences, including abuse, which results in a variety of behaviour and issues on the walks. If an owner tells you their dog is not friendly, please do not take it personally!

Keep control of your dog at all times. This means dogs must be on a leash at all times. No flexi leads or extendable leashes unless in a short and locked position.

Do dog introductions properly (ie butt sniffing) and only with permission of the other owner. If you are unsure what to do, just ask one of the regular group members.

Move over to the side of the trail for runners and walkers - they have just as much right to the trail as we have.

Always clean up after your dog. If you do not have a poop bag, ask another member. This is an absolute must.
Remember to bring along a small donation for the local charities we help out.

Have fun. The walks are a lot of fun for both you and your dogs.
