Love the slippery slope you people want to open up!! You and Scott may be good people who would never abuse it, but I doubt every mod appointed will be. Yeah, I need to find a new forum fast, this place is going to suck real quick like. Especially since we will never be able to trust that what someone said was REALLY what they said!

You dont like this feature? It exists in almost all of the forums.

None of the forums I post on, and even the board I used to mod changed it because people stopped posting because their words were being changed. Even on MySpace I asked a mod if he could take out one part of my post that didn't make sense, he said all he could do was delete the whole thing, he couldn't edit my post. Needless to say he deleted my post and I started posting on a daily basis.

No, even as a mod who had this power I HATE this feature. (I got to see first hand what could go down because of it) But especially since this forum is connected to our Facebook pages, I will NOT post in a forum that some arbitrary jerk off has the ability to change my words. Deleting my post, yes, they have to do that to keep out the spam etc. But changing what I said? Oh hell no.

The best thing in most instances is to apply self moderation, but not everybody does that unfortunately. I would personally prefer never to delete, edit or moderate any post on forum.  But I know that in some instances I might have to.
In adding this feature, the best thing to do is to also add a tag to show that the post has been edited and by whom and to add a line where when editing the post, you "Have to" type a reason for editing which would be displayed on post after editing.

I hear you Cari. What do you think Riaan's suggestion?

I can't understand the bloody point with changing the words in a post. I have fully understanding if the mods have to delete once in a while. I really dig that we can edit our own posts but I can not come to terms with the fact that someone else is doing it.

...and i say as Cari, i have neither heard that someone else or exposed for it myself at MySpace or any other forum.

So i can't more than agree with previous speakers...it would be pity if people leave the forum on due to this because this is not right...

Alan, I'm sorry to be such a stickler on this issue, it is one of the few I cannot find a compromise on. I'm a firm believer in protecting MY words-and especially my words connected to my Facebook. Speaking from experiance with Moderating, if you feel the need to change someone's words in a post then you are better off just deleting/locking the post instead. That is my firm stance and belief. I'm someone who walks my talk and the idea of someone changing my talk turns my stomach.

The problem with a tag being automatically laid into someone's post that has been edited is that you still don't know what that person said vs the speech that was implanted by the outside party. At that point it is no longer the author's post, so it should be deleted. In my opinion changing other people's words is never a good idea, I just don't like it and I'm not the only one.

any forum using vbb (I bet a large percentage) has the ability to edit posts built in.
it is what it is.

We do not have Moderator and Admin status under our names.

From what I can see, is that you can only add 1 mod :/

The whole point in being a Mod, is to keep the forums under control of strays. How can they do this if all they can do is delete a post.

Mods don't need to ban people. They are volunteers. They have no incentive to be fair other than they want to keep modding for free listening to everyone's gripes.

mods don't need to be able to edit if there is already an edit button for the poster.

*side note: How about an option to start the thread with the most recent post as opposed the op.

If this editing feature is really necessary the post should be marked as EDITED by Moderator / Admin "Joe Smith" maybe display it as a redacted version. with deleted words blacked out and added words highlighted ..

One of the things that my forum would need would be:

- Being able to move topics to another category if it's in the wrong one
- Closing topics
