OFFLINE | Since the rebranding of Takara's microman toys by Hasbro to transformers and subsequently the expansion of the history and story line through comics, media, fan made storylines, I would like to create a thread where we can share our thoughts on the various generations and how they link or are not linked or conflict in terms of the concept of what a Transformer ought to be.
First we had the Matrix - or Matrix of Leadership. This relic was passed down from Autobot leader to leader, and the new leader was reformatted - increase in size, transforming mode etc. E.g Hot Rod to Rodimus. (TF the Movie 1980s)
Then Energon - the life energy for all Transformers. Dark Energon - from Unicron; the nemesis of Primus i.e the creator of all Transformers (autobots and decepticons) and also he who is Cybertron itself (Toy in Galaxy Force series transforms Cybertron to Primus). Unicron (from Transformers carton movie) transformed from a planet to a Giant Robot that tried to devour Cybertron in the cartoon).
Mythos of Primus and Unicron- if I recall from the UK comics, Primus and Unicron were like Yin and Yang always in conflict and in the process destroying planets and galaxies. Primus tricked Unicron and imprisoned him into a meteor / celestial body and as a result primus himself knowing that Unicron would free himself ; decided to imprison himself into another celestial body and also create living beings - transformers.
I personally think it's interesting why Unicron himself didn't create underling to combat Primus : maybe he didn't want to share power but instead chose to corrupt the creations of Primus through dark energon. One puzzling question is that for Decepticons : are they corrupted by Unicron or are they just like a faction which can decide to be Autobot again. Another thought - is there any possibility of say Optimus Prime and Megatron switching sides or has their ideologies moved so far apart that they'd always be opposed unlike Orion Pax (Pre optimus prime) who was a friend of Megatron.
More to come... |

OFFLINE | I always believed that it was that Unicron represented a "singular" definite (his name suggests so too) while Primus represents the "multiple" possibilities, just as they also represent the polar opposite of chaos and cosmos. |
