I'm not sure if this was written to be as such, but Jay Leno has had the cast of The Jersey Shore on his Tonight Show, more or less exploiting their idiocies in a mocked game-show high school level trivia question fashion, and they possess very little basic knowledge. Like for example, they don't know who the VP, Secretary of Defense, Speaker of the House, etc, is, or various other basic history facts you might expect the average 7th grader to know. This has been one of my biggest complaints about reality TV in that it makes being stupid the new standard, and regardless of how funny it (might) be, I feel it's had a very toxic influence on our youth.

Italian mayor doesn't want 'Jersey Shore' cast drinking, hanging out in bars



Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and her castmates from “Jersey Shore” are headed to Florence, Italy—but there will be one thing missing from the fourth season of the MTV hit—BOOZE!

Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi laid down the law for the visiting macaroni rascals, and Gawker.com helpfully translated the Mayor’s conditions from Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

• The cast will not be filmed in bars and clubs that serve alcohol.
• The cast will not be filmed drinking in public.
• The show will not be filmed to promote Florence as a drinking town.
• The show should be filmed in a manner to promote Italy (not Americans visiting Italy) and feature its culture and good food.

Mayor Renzi also insisted that producers not film in any of the ancient city’s historic buildings.

“The light and the shadows in Florence are part of what makes the city so special—not unlike a sunset at the Jersey Shore,” travel industry expert Tom Botts of Hudson Crossing explains. “Florence isn’t really a party town like Berlin, Ibiza—or even Seaside Heights. But even if the cast can’t drink in the bars and clubs of Florence, I’m sure they’ll find a way to enjoy some good vino while in Italy.”
