OFFLINE | Bryant, I just saw a documentary (on Encore) about Chinese cinema. It was hosted by Samuel L Jackson and went through the history of the genre but focused mostly on the kung fu martial arts rather than my favorite (Samurai).
It was originally aired in 2003 and it showed David Karradine. Sadly, rather than being interested in what he had to say, I could only think of how he was found hanging in a closet with a string tied around his ****. That has scarred me for life I think. Lol!
i wish they would have talked about Japanese cinema because they probably would have discussed Toshiro Mifune and Sho Kosugi (I loved his Ninja movies).
Having trouble finding anything of the genre on Directv right now. |

OFFLINE | You need to get Netflix (right now they have a one month free trial for their instant streaming). Their instant Samurai selection has declined somewhat in the last six months (for some reason they pulled most of Kurasawa's/Mifune's movies of instant), but they still have a decent online selection. If you go for that, watch 13 Assassins by Miike (the Japanese predecessor of Quintin Tarantino), its a bit over the top but otherwise incredibly well done. |

OFFLINE | Thanx. I'm too poor to sign up for anything, so I guess I'll have to wait til they come on TCM.
