OFFLINE | (In America) Suppose you called some customer service automated service and received the following instructions:
Press '1' for English.
Press '2' to disconnect until you learn to speak English.
I'm sure it's most politically incorrect. But seriously, would it upset you? I'd find it unprofessional, but that's about all. |

Wouldn't upset me.
OTOH, if the caller can't speak English, they wouldn't be able to understand what it's saying in the first place. So not need to press anything. Either you understand it or you don't.

OFFLINE | Being rude is never appropriate, no matter what language you speak. But then again, I can be muy inapropiada.

I agree. But in looking at it in another direction, I can see it being perceived as 'rude' when non-English speaking people move to a country where its national language is English, and then influencing motions that result in American Dialing Directories asking people to press a button specifically for an English menu - without said people ever putting forth a genuine effort to learn to speak English.
But I digress; I favor one universal language - whatever that might happen to be. I love diversity, but it feels frustrating in the presence of communication gaps. And I don't think "Pressing 1" really closes that gap. |

OFFLINE | How difficult is it to push a button to hear a message in the language you prefer? |
