The Department of Writing and Linguistics seeks qualified candidates for a one-semester internship. The Wikipedia Campus Ambassador will provide instructional assistance in classes where students write and edit articles for Wikipedia, the world’s largest on-line encyclopedia. Final selection of Campus Ambassadors will be made and training will be provided by the Wikimedia Foundation. Responsibilities of this intern may include, but will not be limited to, the following:

5. Communicating with other Wikipedia editors on behalf of GSU students;
6. Being available, especially via e-mail and texting, to answer student questions about writing for Wikipedia.

Qualifications:

Experience writing and editing on Wikipedia is preferred (though not necessary). Candidates with no Wikipedia experience but with demonstrated abilities in html and/or web page building and excellent writing and researching abilities are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will have above average writing, editing, and negotiating skills, the ability to respond positively to criticism, to be unafraid to learn new technology, and to able to quickly master very specific writer’s guidelines.

This is an unpaid internship; however, the selected candidate may receive up to three (3) hours of credit (WRIT 4790) in each semester of the internship. The selected candidate should be prepared to commit roughly two hours a week per credit hour to the position. Schedule is flexible, and must be agreed upon by the internship supervisor.

Application Process:

To apply, please e-mail application materials to Dr. Sarah Domet at sdomet@georgiasouthern.edu. In the subject line of this e-mail, please write Wikipedia Campus Ambassador Internship. Include the following materials as .doc, .docx, or .pdf attachments:

2. A brief (100-300 word) statement of interest and qualifications;
