WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A TRAFFIC TICKET:

This advice was sent by a retired State Farm agent! This system has been tried and it works in every state.

If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light , or whatever the case may be, you ' re going to get points on your license and a surcharge on your auto insurance. This is a method to insure that you DO NOT get the points.

When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is $79.00 make the check out for $82.00, some small amount over the fine. The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference. However, here is the trick: DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it away! THAT'S RIGHT. THROW IT AWAY!

Points are not assessed to your license until all Financial Transactions are complete. If you do not cash the check , then the transactions are NOT complete. The system has received its money and is satisfied and will no longer bother you.

This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every state.

Years ago, I read a story about a man received by mail a ticket fine for running a red light where the event was caught on camera. The guy, disliking the idea of being fined based on a camera pic, sent in a picture of $75 or whatever the amount of money was. And then some time later, the man received a picture of Handcuffs, and then quickly paid the fine for real.

LOl....  I get more than my share of tickets but  I never get points.  I use two methods, first most courts allow you to take defensive driving to get the ticket dismissed, contact the court first to obtain their specific protocal for removing the ticket and the court may require a certified copy of your driving record ( now online in most states) .   If I have already taken defensive driving I go before the judge and ask for deferrment, a type of probation, I am on a three month probation now, if I do not get a another speeding ticket in 3 months, the speeding ticket is dismissed.  there are other methods that are too time consuming for me ... ask for a trial by judge or jury and take your chances you get off or a key witness like the cop doesn't show up.

I don't have to google that to know it's not true.  I handle traffic tickets in city court all the time ... in Kansas, paralegals are allowed to do so.  There is almost always an opportunity to pay a fine and plead it down to a non-moving violation.  (Unless of course you're a habitual offender, then things get a bit different).  For the normal everyday person who gets a ticket every once in awhile, like Sherry said, you can show in court yourself or you can pay an attorney to handle it for you.  Either way, you are going to save money in higher insurance premiums by attempting to plead it down to a lessor charge.

I've gotten two tickets in my entire driving life and didn't even try to get out of them because I knew I was speeding way over the limit. The first time, I'd just gotten a Camaro and was doing 135 on the Interstate. I was annoyed that I got pulled over before I hit the 150 that showed on the speedometer. The second time was because I was doing 60 in a 35 because I was trying to get home from work because I had to pee so bad! I was annoyed because I thought I was going to wet myself before the policeman wrote the ticket and I could drive away.

I've gotten a few tickets.... went to traffic school twice (boring!). I've got out of them by flirting and fake crying. The one time I was REALLY crying (Sam had just died) the cop gave me a lecture and told me I shouldn't be driving. The next day he let my friend go- he was doing 89 in a 70 MPH zone. WTF?????? I guess it depends on the cop and his mood (and how well he knows your family).
