OFFLINE | I am planning out a list of things to do with my little boy so that he gets to see and learn things outside his school curriculum.
Any suggestion on what to do during school holiday? Thanks |

OFFLINE | I found this excellent blog that has some interesting educational tours in Singapore!
Will definitely bring my son to visit some of them this june.

Btw my topic for him this week is on Plants and Trees.
Will probably bring him to Botanical Gardens Jacob Ballas Children's Garden and to visit a farm.
Most farms are located at Lim Chu Kang... sooooooo far! Good for mummies staying in the north and west... |

OFFLINE | Yesterday I planned this week's teaching on plants and trees until 3am!
I was so tired that I only taught him in the late afternoon...
Another rule for teaching your child... Do not teach when you are grumpy, tired or sick...
Thank God there are downloadable worksheets in NParks website and I taught him the different parts of a plant (http://www.nparks.gov.sg/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=193&Itemid=174) ... leaf, roots, stem, flower, fruit...
We did some colouring, cutting and pasting and stick up the work we did today.. I really enjoy it |

OFFLINE | Yesterday we planted seeds and today we went to Botanical Gardens, Jacob Ballas Children's Garden.
The taxi driver alighted us at the wrong place and we had to walk 15 mins to the children's garden. But along the way we saw ducks, swans and mango trees so its worth the while. At the children's garden, we saw banana trees, dragon fruit plant (its a cactus), some kind of melon tree, longan tree with no longan and a squirrel.
I wanted him to learn that flowers and fruits comes from plants and trees and I think the garden has brought its point. (In fact, mango trees, coconut trees and jackfruit trees can be found in my neighbourhood too, probably yours too.) And its a good change of environment for him rather than always visiting shopping malls.
About the place:
I thought that the children's garden will be more shady but it's not. The children's playground and water fountain have no shades at all. It's advisable to go earlier in the morning and bring along sun block, swimsuit if you want him/her to play in the fountain.
If you are strict on what your child eats, its good to bring some snacks in case he/she gets hungry. (Its not allowed to eat in the children's garden) The cafe does sell food but most of it deep fried except for a cheesy bun.
If you are visiting any of the lakes you may bring bread to feed the swans. I'm not sure if its allowed but the lake we went to is quiet and some kind visitors spare us some bread. And my son enjoyed it tremendously!
Spend just 1 to 1.5 hrs there. You and your child will get too tired and sweaty to enjoy after that. Bring a stroller too if your child can't walk long distances.
Botanical gardens is huge. I awlays visit via the main entrance at tanglin but there is the bukit timah area you can explore too. |

OFFLINE | Today I printed the pictures and words of animals and plants/trees we saw at botanical gardens and briefly showed it to him. Well, he didn't really looked at it and was busy playing with my printer. We had water play and soccer at home. Wasn't really in the mood to teach him so we just played
I'm getting to feel that this is a blog rather than a forum... sob
Should I remove the forum? Please advise. Thanks |
