This is a scoping network for all scopists. Court reporters will not be allowed in so that scopists may speak freely.

All posters may feel free to post without being criticized for writing errors that may occur in their writing. Anyone who criticizes someone's writing in a post will be removed.
Everything in this network is meant to be of a supportive nature. If you cannot refrain from stating something in a positive manner, then please refrain from posting.

Thank you,

Question(s)???? purchasing scoping software any moment after much research.  I do know that a reporter and scopist can utilize different editing software with the use of such things as RTF, et cetera.  Is that scenario as common as hope it is?

And are more new scopists going right into Eclipse 5 for example as opposed to case catalyst?  What is most widely used by reporters I guess is my question?

Thanks.....

Hi Paula,

Welcome to Just Scopists!!  We're glad to have you.
You are asking an excellent question.
I'm just going to post a brief note because I've got a hectic
schedule going at the moment.
I'll do what I can to provide more information this afternoon.

Both Case CATalyst and Eclipse are pretty much equally used in
the court reporting field.  And although it is possible to
convert the files from one CAT program to another, it's my
understanding that most reporters will not do that.
This is because the formatting changes enough between the programs
to cause issues when the reporter receives it back that it will
take some time on their part to straighten it out.  Exactly
how much time, I do not know.  My estimate would be up to an
hour.
I have converted files myself between the two programs on behalf
of my students, so I have seen the differences between the programs.
In my opinion, it's a PITA (pain in the #*&%).

Feel free to contact me at drscoping@gmail.com if you have additional
questions.
