| As most of you know we tweak the scoring algorithms/formulas virtually every single cycle. Starting tomorrow will be the biggest change in a long time as far as how we weight number of unique people cheering, vs. total number of cheers. We're "moving the dial" towards "number of unique people" vs. "how many cheers." Number of cheers is still important of course (and from whom), but number of distinct cheerers (from different IP addresses, to rule out 3 people in a single household) will be given even more weight than it has had in the past.
Example, someone who gets 900 cheers from only a single person will receive fewer points than someone who gets 450 cheers from two different people (assuming the cheerers are of the same "type").
While this has always been true, it will be somewhat more magnified now, as the benefit of the multiple cheers has been substantially increased from what it was.
We are like Google, always trying to improve search results (and they changing weightings all the time), but instead we are trying to maximize fairness and accurately represent who a broad cross section of the audience enjoys.
We are also increasing the time that the smiley face appears on the map from 15 seconds to 30 seconds. Historically you could only see who cheered in the past 15 seconds. It will now change to the past 30 seconds.
