I was a min or two late for the intro but I don't think I missed much. The story had nice pacing as it never felt too rushed or too slow. In fact, I got so wrapped up in the story that the 2 1/2 (guessing here) hours just kinda flew by! I have to admit that I had very little knowledge about the movie and had certainly never read the book but the acting in the movie was top notch. If no one nominates anyone from this movie, I will be incredibly shocked and even a bit upset.

There were no fancy special effects, and there was no music during the movie to guide or sway your emotions during any scenes. It was played as life would. No music, no enhancement, no 'wow' factor, just a simple telling of life for various people with happiness, sadness, embarrassment, peer pressure, regret, fear, and so much more. All that you would expect from watching the life of people in any era and this is especially true for the 1960's in the South. Not to say that there wasn't any music at all, the music at the credits was good and seemed to fit the bill for the movie.

While the movie was very good, I find it hard to give it a 5 star rating as I there was something... lacking, I don't know what. That keeps it from being that perfect rating. Still, I have to give it either a 4 or 4 1/2 stars because of how incredibly good it was. I ask anyone who has seen it to post their review and tell me what the thing it was because it is nagging at me. Maybe it'll come to me later and I'll revise this review. After thinking about it, I decide to give it a 4 1/2 stars based on the goodness of the movie.

I haven't seen it and to tell you the truth most of the people that have haven't been able to really nail what it's about.
