OFFLINE | Hello all can anyone tell me the proper or recommended enclosure for the TRF 2215? I would like to get this sub in a box and see what it can do. Its been sitting on my shelf new in the box for years. I have the amp to push it to its max, just not sure of the air space and porting that Rockford recommends. |

OFFLINE | There was no recommended enclosure, those subs were for SPL use only. The enclosure was built around your available air space along with the resonant frequency of the vehicle. |

OFFLINE | I had a friend put his TRF" in a "powerful enclosure" spec box and it pounded and sounded good. Yes the guy previous me is correct, but it's also gonna sound good and get loud in a slightly larger than average box, tuned to your listening prefrences. The higher you like it tuned, the better the sub is gonna like you

OFFLINE | port style is usually just a convenience thing. The best/most effecient ports are flared round ports. You can get away with much smaller ports with the same performance than say a slot port that's not flared. But on the flip side the slot ports are usually the easiest to build, since you dont need to actually "install" it, half the walls are built into the box itself.
Port's as a general guideline are based on port area per cube for the box in question. Usually it's reccomended 12-15 square inches of port area per cube for your box. So say you want a slot port, you can use some basic math to get what you want. 3" wide port that's 14" tall would be 42" of port area which is good for about 4 cubes net of box volume. Get what I'm sayin?
I prefer slot ports because of the ease and cost value it is to make a slot ported box and the amount of support for such boxes is good. Tons of calculators and box designes that can help you for free. |
