This is a pretty good video of the massive tornado that hit my town.  (Actually my old town.  I live about 30 miles away now).  This is the hometown of the university of Alabama.  The tornado was being filmed from the University Mall (I was actually there yesterday) and it wiped out several historical landmark businesses.  It barely missed DCH regional hospital.  It destroyed a number of neighborhoods only a half mile from the hospital and I would guess this tornado was only a half mile or less away as they filmed it.  As you watch it, keep in mind that people were getting killed as the tornado ripped through the city.

Wow.  Did that mall just withstand a direct hit?

I'm glad we don't get very many tornadoes in the Central Valley, and the ones we do get tend to be small, are short lived, and tend to do minimal damage (ie tare the roof off a few barns, play havoc on the FYI runway, etc).  Thats a good thing, 'cause very few houses out here have cellars.

Actually some of us have storm shelters in our homes or our neighbors so thats where I go.  That tornado hit just across a 4 lane road from the mall.

Duck and cover in the hallway bathroom is what do. Cellars and south Louisiana don't mix too well. Of course most of the "tornadoes" we get down here are really land-based water spouts....totally different triggering mechanism and they are much weaker. We do get a few real tornadoes though.
