Tippmann are a very good brand and they are very helpful if you run into problems with their stuff. their markers out of the box works and always work like that. i own a tippmann marker and i haven't had a problem with it they are easy to work with. a good marker from them is the 98 custom with act it chop less balls then a normal tippmann you can get etriggers to response triggers for them and their is a ton of upgrades for tippamnn markers.

Tippmann's are good in the sense that they are simple, rugged, and reliable.  You can abuse them and they will keep on working.  They also have great customer service as well.

The 98C is a decent starter marker, having ACT is really only needed if your using a gravity hopper so you don't chop but it you have a motorized hopper, the ACT function is as if it was never there.  While the 98C is good basic platform, more common is the A5 as it is more versatile, comes with a force fed hopper, and has far more upgrade options.

Tippmanns do have quite a few upgrades available, most of them are milsim instead of performance.  If you want to compare performance, there are a lot of upgrades for other markers as well.
