If you go back to Genesis, after Cain slew Abel, God cursed him, and Cain said he would be a fugitive and the people would seek to kill him. God put a mark on Cain, that whoever slays him God would take vengance on them seven fold.  So God put a mark on Cain , so that no one would take his life, this was the first life sentence.    The mark of the beast, is put on those who obey the beast or his authority. It is put on the head if you believe the beast, or on the hand if you only obey to save your life.   The angels place the seal of God on His children, because they obey His commandments..God's seal goes on the forehead only, because He accepts only the whole.. you can't serve two masters...Satan accepts either thoughts or service,   but God expects us to obey in heart and action.
