This is it guys.  Better than a Buck Rogers jet pack!

Lift-off soon for strap-on flying machine

The wait for your very own jet ski in the sky is nearly over, according to the New Zealand company behind an ambitious aeronautical project. The Martin Jetpack, literally a strap-on personal flying machine, is now in the final stages of development, with the first machines to be dispatched for solo flights by the end of the year.

The jetpack resembles two leaf blowers welded together but its capabilities are much more complex. The two-litre, jet-powered engine can soar across the skies at 100km/h at heights of up to 50m. Carrying enough fuel to fly for 30 minutes, the contraption could be used in hard-to-access areas and war zones to patrol borders and, if unmanned, to make difficult deliveries by remote control.

(Approves)

I mean ... they have pole vaulting.  So why not?

British Company Lobbies for Pole Dancing to Become Olympic Sport

And the gold medal for pole dancing goes to...

If a British company has its way, pole dancing will become a test sport for the 2012 London Olympics.

Vertical Dance has started an online petition to accept pole dancing as an official sport, Metro U.K. reports. It has garnered nearly 6,000 supporters so far.

"After a great deal of feedback from the pole dance community, many of us have decided that it's about time pole fitness is recognized as a competitive sport and what better way for recognition then to be part of the 2012 Olympics held in London!" the petition says.

The company compares pole dancing to gymnastics.

"Like the horizontal bar, the vertical bar should have a place in international competitive sport. We believe that like Rhythmic Gymnastic, the Horizontal Bar and Figure Skating, Pole Dance/Vertical Dance is acrobatic, gymnastic, technical and takes a great deal of physical skill and strength to master, earning it a place in the greatest sporting event in the world," the petition states.

The Vertical Dance company says pole dancing has become international, with more than 50 countries taking part in the "sport."

They are hoping for pole dancing to become an official Olympic sport by 2016.

The International Olympic Committee has yet to comment about the petition.

Those who are interested in recognizing the raising pole dancing to Olympic status can sign here:
