OFFLINE | If the question is who is yoru favor songwriter as far as lyricist mine would have to be Ellis Paul hands down. Lyrically he writes poems set to music and those poems are golden. As far as who writes my favorite songs that is far more broad based... I'll have to think upon it a while. |

For me, the songwriters I admire most are:
Iggy Pop - at his best manages to say a lot with great economy - he really gets to the heart of what he's writing about.
David Lowry of Cracker and CVB - poetic lyrics without sounding contrived.
Nigel Blackwell of half man half biscuit - I like his technique - he effectively uses a football chant-type approach often, but combines it with really sharp/amusing lyrics.
Nick Lowe - writes songs that sound as if they might have existed before he actually wrote them. |

OFFLINE | I've taken a recent liking to Slaid Cleaves, whose songs remind me a bit of the late Dave Carter.

Well, I can see why, Joellen. Thanks.. I'm just gonna repost that vid so it's easier to access. I had the good fortune to see Dave Carter at a small festival before his much too early and sudden demise. I feel both lucky and sad about that.
