Flash back Winter 2004.  My husband and I were newlyweds, and I had only only been working here (at SCVIM) for about 6 months. I had been wanting a dog to call our "baby" and my husband just wasn't interested.  He wasn't much of an animal lover.  Because I worked for Internal Medicine, which is next door to the Animal Emergency Care Center, there are constant adoption opportunities.  One afternoon, I heard about some Jack Russell puppies that were looking for a home.  Their mother had been given up because the original owners couldn't afford a necessary cesarian to birth the puppies, and one of the nurses at AECC decided to foster her.  6 weeks after the puppies were born, the were ready for homes.  The 2 typical-looking white Jack Russells with brown and black splotches were adopted immediately.  There were 2 left, a boy and a girl, both almost completely white.  Even though my hubby opposed, I arranged with a co-worker to go down to the south clinic to look at the puppies.  My sis-in-law came with me and we immediately fell head over heels.  What is it about floppy ears, puppy breath and tiny paws?   Both the girl and boy were sweet, but there was something about the little boy that just made me feel like he was meant for me.  Taking a big breath, I called my husband.  "No!" He said through the receiver.  I sighed.  I snuggled the puppy.  Then, I took a picture with my phone and sent my husband a text picture  with a caption, "Love me!".   Within 2 minutes, I received a text back saying,  "He's cute".  I re-negotiated.  I called my husband and asked him to just look at the puppies.  It took some begging, but he finally agreed.  Half an hour later, he was holding the puppies, his Marine toughness melting into a pile of butter on the floor.  Yep.  He was hooked.  We both agreed on the boy, and my husband instantly named him "Gunny".  Leave it to the Marines!    We took him home a few days later, and our sweet little Jack Russell officially became "Gunny Parsons".   He's been a member of our family ever since

What an adorable story. They really do choose us, don't they? I had to beg my husband too. They should know though, getting involved with animal lovers, that these are the consequences
