| Sgt Pepper was found by some nice college guys wandering around. He had been hanging out with firemen at the local fire department. He was a very nice dog, and they believed that he must have been separated from his family. The college kids and the firemen took care of him for over a month, hanging flyers with his picture and trying to find his family. One of the boys, Duncan, took him home to stay during breaks, and his family began to foster him.
Duncan's family had Sgt Pepper for almost a year, but with three dogs of their own and three kids, they really wanted to find him a home. About that time, I moved into an apartment just down the street. I came to town to work at the church that this family attended, and happened to sit with their family at my first church function. They told me about the wonderful dog they were keeping, and asked if I would like to meet him. I had in my mind that I was ready to get a dog, but I thought I would settle in to my new job and town first. But they were very convincing and told me that he was the most wonderful dog ever, so I agreed to meet him.
The moment I saw him, I knew that Sgt Pepper was my dog! It was like we had been waiting for each other, and he seemed to almost appreciate the fact that he had a real home. One of the most wonderful parts of his story is that when he got sick with cancer 6 months later, we got cards and contributions to help pay for his treatment from 10 families I had never met! Three years later, he is doing well and his former "families" still check in to see how he is doing.

| Becca, you've met him now, right? If not, I will have to bring him in just for you to meet him! That is sad! |
