My main objective with posting this thread is to show how Conservative compassion works, the problem with the left is that they act as if they perpetually have the moral high ground, and that conservatives are just evil dark and cold. I would say in reality the difference is is that conservatives think farther out than the left, and that is the future they are showing concern for. And I would posit that ultimately conservatives have the moral high ground on every issue (every one I can think of at least), the history lesson below is a good case study of conservatives having the moral high ground.

For those not following, the Euro as a currency is falling apart. Northern Europe is angry that is is having to subsidize Portugal, Greece, and now Ireland. Those countries are loosing jobs. Basically all in all the Euro is a failed concept and has done nothing but damage to everyone.

Well 20 years ago Margaret Thatcher's last battle was against the Euro. Here is a great video of the Iron Lady.

Well she was right, and it should be noted she was the most compassionate one in the room. Here are some excerpts I have taken from this link:  http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/253668/was-then-andrew-stuttaford

ack in 1990, Mrs Thatcher foresaw with painful clarity the devastation [the single currency] was bound to cause. Her autobiography records how she warned John Major, her euro-friendly chancellor of the exchequer, that the single currency could not accommodate both industrial powerhouses such as Germany and smaller countries such as Greece. Germany, forecast Thatcher, would be phobic about inflation, while the euro would prove fatal to the poorer countries because it would “devastate their inefficient economies”.

It is as if, all those years ago, the British prime minister possessed a crystal ball that enabled her to foresee the catastrophic events of the past year or so in Ireland, Greece and Portugal. Indeed, it is one of the tragedies of European history that the world chose not to believe her. President Mitterrand of France and Chancellor Kohl of Germany dismissed her words of caution. And when Mrs Thatcher was driven from office in 1990, a crucial voice was lost, and a new consensus started to form in Britain in favour of the euro.

This consensus stretched across the entire spectrum of the British establishment. It took in Tony Blair’s New Labour and all of Paddy Ashdown’s Liberal Democrats. The CBI came out for the euro, and so did the trades unions. The Foreign Office was doctrinally pro-single currency. Leading businessmen, such as Peter Sutherland (chairman of BP and Goldman Sachs International) and the fashion-conscious Richard Branson were strongly in favour. The Financial Times, a newspaper whose judgment has been wrong on every great economic issue of the last 40 years, was another supporter…

…One other point. Margaret Thatcher may have been the first victim of the single currency, but there have been many more since: the millions who have lost their jobs and the nations that are being stripped (as she forecast) of their pride and independence. Baroness Thatcher has often been accused by her politically motivated enemies of callousness. But backers of the European project are today happy to countenance unlimited human suffering in their mission to enforce economic and monetary union. Mrs Thatcher knew this would be the result of their deranged plan, which is why she fought to stop it. Her last battle as prime minister could not have been fought in a greater or more compassionate cause.

This is a good post.  You have illustated one of the major problems of why we should not desire  one-world govt, economy or currency.  Europe now finds itself having to deal with the failing economies of Greece, Portugal and Ireland. And those 3 nations find themselves in the embarrassing position of haing to go to the rest of Europe and begging them for help.

Can you imagine how things might play out if the USA ever had to beg other nations for help?  What might France or Russia say to us?  What strings would be attached if we had to ask Saudi Arabia for monetary help?  (Leave Iran alone.  Turn your backs on Israel or else).  It weakens yor postion.  And, otoh, how would you like to have your taxes raised to bail out someone you might despise?

As for the Conservate vs Liberal thing, I dunno how it works overthere.  But in the USA, liberals are the left.  Conservatives are generally the right.  We, for the most part, value religion, faith, morality, patriotism and the traditional family.  Liberals typically hate all that and work hard to champion "alternative" values such as athiesm, homosexuality, and legalizing drugs.  They also I have found that those few who actually do call themselves Christian, like to pick and choose what bits of the Bible they like, and disregard the rest.

In my opinion, True Hard core liberals are immoral and will punch your lights out if you suggest that they are.  Anything that regulates their social life, anything that restricts their behaviour in any way...they hate.

They also champion Big Govt.  They like the "Nanny State".  They want guaranteed funding for abortions, education, housing, and food program.  They want illegals to be able to go to college free.  They want open borders and care little for National sovereignty.  They usually believe that the community and the govt knows best how to raise your children.  Most view our Founding Fathers as dead white slave owners and do not value what those people gave us.  I daresay many wish our nation was one big happy Commune where everyone with a Sesame Street mentality.

Least...thats how I view it.

If you had any kind of real idea what Margaret Thatcher stood for you would not insult me and every other person in this Country by saying she had as much as a single ounce of compassion in her entire f*****g body. She cared about the rich and ensuring they stayed rich.

Dennis, the American left is still right wing compared to the left wing (as it is over here). I don't mean New Labour (as in Teflon Tony's Labour) but the actual Left. The American right is way more right wing than the Torries (our right which is akin to your left).

In my experience the American right are as bad at picking and choosing parts from the Bible as your 'liberals' are.

Im curious as to how a 'true ****' liberal can be against something that regulates their social life yet be in favour of a 'nanny state'? The only answer I can think of is that you don't really understand what a real liberal is ( no offence meant).

No offense taken!    I'm confused too as to why the left would be in favor of big govt.  But c'mon man...everyone here knows liberals are evil and want to live depraved lives and stamp out traditional family values.  Lol!

this IS globalization. the world is now at a point when the collapse of one economy, can lead to the collapse of all economies. this is what they've been wanting. and i'm not going to speculate on whether or not it's the apocalypse or anything, but you guys need to try and prepare yourselves, because we haven't hit rock bottom yet. and that's for all our trans-atlantic members as well.

the one world state is being pursued by a lot of very powerful and influencial forces, and in order to get us all marching in the same direction, they first have to bleed the prosperity out of the "big guys," so that they are just as weak and desperate as everyone else.
