I began the online TEFL training today. I have just completed Units 1-3 and although I have learnt a few things, I've become very unsettled by how much we're expected to know and be ready for like creating year course plans, class managment etc. what is everybody else's opinion of the online course?

I feel the same I'm just about to finish the whole of 1st section before doing the first quiz and I'm kind of hesitant to click the quiz button due to the amount of info given to me in these sections how much of it I might be required to comment on. It’s not that I've skim read the sections or anything I read it all word for word but there's just too much new and unfamiliar information being skimmed over by the course material, it mentions the full names of things like TPR, SLT, CLT etc etc and after one mention it then goes back to using its abbreviation. Once it comes to taking the test if its anything like the first test we had to take and get at least 60% I’m not feeling overly confident of clicking begin test

I'm an English Language grad and I'm finding it pretty intense. I can just about get my head round it once I've listened the the American guy talk through it and read over it again myself but its the actual responsibility that worries me the most. We have to know and use all of this in about 8 weeks time with 20-40 pairs of chinese eyes staring at us.

I just copy and pasted it into word and then took handwritten notes as well, as I learn best when I write rather than when I read. Maybe that would help?

I am sure you will be absolutely ace at this! It's a good sign that you're nervous. No good teacher goes in thinking they know it all. As long as you've listened to the American man, read the text and done the tests, you've done all of your prep and I promise you it's all in there and will resurface as you go along!

I'm going with the note taking technique also, but they're not just notes, this is going to be the start of my teaching 101 book to myself. I imagine I will add tons once we're over there and experiencing the actual teaching, because things will go wrong. Even with all the preparation in the world you couldn't stop things from going wrong. Abigail is right though it will all come good! It's all an experience but taking quality notes that read in a way clear to you will help with any lesson planning in the future, & not just with these mini quizes/exam.

Brian man you'll kill it when you're out there. Develop your own way of teaching & all those Chinese eyes will be loving it.

that actually makes me feel a lot better Abi, I wish you were going where I am. well I'm going to take the advice from both of you and make a personal note book of all the content to use as reference now and when I'm there. thanks.
