The first trials of the smallpox vaccine in the UK showed that the vaccine caused an increase in the general death rate of the population as vaccination coverage increased. The CDC and WHO still reference this first trial period wrongly as a success for smallpox vaccination.

The WHO made a huge worldwide propaganda event that smallpox had been eliminated due to vaccination. Actually what WHO did was rename SMALLpox and MONKEYpox, which is still a problem.
