OFFLINE | Setting up Fibre Broadband is simple. When OpenNet guy come, he just use 5 min and it's done. The reason is he doesn't help you on the devices.
Step 1
After he left, I dismantle what he has done. I want the Nucleus Connect box to be wall mount to save some space. Take note of the Ethernet port. I am using M1, so it is the first port (as shown). Different ISP use different port, so do remember before you dismantle. Why like that? Ask Starhub. They owed Nucleus Connect and someone there must had came out this dumb idea.
Step 2
Setup the hooks on the wall. You can buy them from every where. Just make sure it can go it and out from the holes provided behind Nucleus Connect box.
Step 3
Mount my Nucleus Connect box on the wall. I connect the fibre cable in first. Followed by network (remember to insert to the correct port) and power. You noted that my power and Ethernet cables are on top of the fibre cable. This is to protect the fibre cable from unforeseen damage.
Step 4
Now connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a modem WAN Ethernet port. I highly recommend a gigabit router (cost around $100 to $150). My friend in SLS recommended Cisco E2000. But since I'm on a budget and my Edimax 6200WG 3G router is still working fine (802.11b/g), I decide to temporary used it till the next IT Show. Since setting up WAN varies from router to router, I will skip that part. The yellow and white cables are linked to my network printer and 1Box, so don't be alarm.
Done
Power up and it will be linked to fibre broadband. No dial-up.
Happy surfing
Things to note
Using a 802.11b/g router or non-gigabit 802.11b/g/n router will experience speed drop. In my case, my speed is dropped by 50%, but I'm fine with it since I'm used to 3Mbps. |

OFFLINE | The technician just come down, unbox your Nucleus Connect box, power up, plug in the fiber cable to the OpenNet fiber box, plug in one end of Ethernet cable provided by Nucleus into Nucleus Connect box, power up and called it a day. He don't configure anything, unlike broadband. Anything on the other end of Ethernet cable is not his problem. His job is to see that Nucleus Connect box power up and the lights on it shows that it is connected.
For the crap above, I have to wait for #@&$ 2 weeks. Why don't they just pass me the box when I sign up and ask the guy come to check when I can't connect. |
