I never bother to buy anything below 1200 denier for my Haffie as he has no respect of anything delicate( bit like me really!)  During the rain in summer we have a no fill Shires Summer Typhoon as  ( which he has ripped the bottom chest strap off within 6 weeks duh) and this winter he will live out 24/7 in a new Swish Combo winter weight, which we will test run for its anti Haflinger properties and report in spring! Last 3 winters he had the same Wetherbeeta Orican Combo  which lasted quite well considering he spends most of his non eating moments working out how to find something in the field to wreck the poor thing on. This week he has decided a big pile of granite rocks are perfect for bum scratching- tail flaps are constantly under threat especially when the midges are out. Normal fly sheets such as Amigo have lasted a record six days before the holes start getting seriously large enough to be useless against any flies. I love my boy to bits but get fed up with all the needlework required to keep up with his antics!

Masta turnouts all the way for me although I have gone with other makes if they have been in a sale. Having just discovered Equestrian Clearance.com on the net though, rug shopping has got a lot less pricey. You do have to bide your time and keep checking back on the site as popular sizes don't come up as much but I got a thick winter Masta turnout with neck for a bargain £40 a couple of weeks ago. I find that the Masta straps wear better and Houdini can't get out of his rug. We had a Derby House own brand winter rug last year and I found the clips broke quite quickly and then the pony shed it in a fit of bucking. I do find we get quite bad mane rub off the Masta though - its weighing up a warm horse (he gets a full clip in winter) against a muddy horse and so far I would rather risk rub than have to chisel the mud off his neck every day. I find a medium Amigo stable rug with neck underneath seems to stop the rub though as its very smooth. Someone has also suggested pot loads of Canter Mane and Tail and plaiting in big plaits to stop the mane getting thin too, so I'll try this over the winter :-)

i buy the cheapest can get!! cos they wreck them easy, and find that expensive rugs are no different to cheap ones, do like rhinegold, bazras has survived 2yrs so far, cost 20q, mine usually only have thin/med, as unclipped, and find get too hot else, if dry, naked, only rug in the rain!!
