Brown Rice Kills 63% of Colon Cancer Cells in Vitro and Reduces Risk in Humans:

In this study, researchers showed that brown rice extract killed up to 63% of colon cancer cells at the low concentration of just 100 PPM (parts per million). Interestingly, the crude brown rice extract was much more effective in killing cancer cells than any of its individual components on their own, shown again that whole foods are always better.

But does brown rice have health benefits in the real world? Several studies suggest yes – and powerfully so. A recent study out of the USA showed that eating brown rice at least once weekly reduces the risk of colorectal polyps (pre-cancerous growths) by 40%. Another American study out of California showed that two servings of brown rice per week reduced the risk of pancreatic cancer by 40%, and yet another study out of Korea showed that women eating the most mixed brown rice (350 grams daily) had an amazing 58% less breast cancer.

Note that in all three studies, white rice was neutral or even raised cancer risk compared to brown rice! Brown rice is a natural, whole food with multiple health benefits. It makes a great addition to a healthy diet rich in vegetables, fruit, herbs and spices, and can be used in almost any recipe that calls for white rice. It may take a little longer to cook, but the health benefits are clearly worth it.
