 OFFLINE | Brothers,
The membership has voted for the Q-8 Alumni Association to withdraw from Hofstra University as a chartered alumni organization. A vote was conducted and 66 responders voted 71% in favor of withdrawing and 29% in favor of becoming compliant, as you are aware the Hofstra Alumni House gave us a binary decision to make. The choice was to become “compliant” with Hofstra Alumni rules and only allow Hofstra Graduates to be officers of our organization thereby disenfranchising the majority of our members, or to have our charter revoked. Hofstra must be unaware, or simply doesn’t wish to recognize that the vast majority of ROTC Cadets since the 1970’s have been non Hofstra students. As US Army scholarships decline in quantity, and the catchment area of ROTC units increases in scope, that gap will increase not decrease. We have tried our best to cooperate over the years, however when faced with such a choice, we overwhelmingly voted to split with Hofstra rather than disenfranchise a single brother.
I am therefore sending a letter to Hofstra’s alumni house and our representation there of this decision. I will keep you updated on future matters, voting and news. To those who voted on this measure, thank you.
Jim
