Project Scope

I am an area resident trying to find out information on the project scope for the proposed Terwillegar Towne transitional housing.  Specifically I would like the JPHWC to answer the following:

-How many units are planned for this site?
-Who will be living here; families, single men or women?
-There are currently NO SERVICES within walking distance to this location.  Why was this location chosen?  How can the JPHWC expect the residents to be successful in their transition if they are facing an immediate roadblock in accessing essential basic services?
-Are there full-time staff that will be operating this site and or any staff overseeing this site?
-What is the project success criteria as defined by JPHWC?
-If there are problems at the location and or within the community because of this project, who will residents voice their concerns to?

Thank you.

How long have discussions for this been going on? We have owned in the neighbourhood for over four years and this does not seem to fit into the neighbourhood profile. There may be something that I am missing here. I don't know of other businesses or services that will be necessary for transition. The nearest business is the liquor store, a walk away, next to the Mac's by the schools. The next closest businesses are about 40 minutes walk away. Being a suburb next to a freeway, this does not seem like a conventional area for a transition house. Do homes like this in remote areas have a history of being any more successful than those in well serviced neighbourhoods?

In the past we used to hire people from "Our House" transition detox centre. Some were good workers and transitioned out well. The difference to there from here is that it is located near downtown. In an area where residents were able to get east transportation from the centre to our business. Where are these residents going to work? How are they going to travel to work? How long does it take to get from the back corner of Terwillegar Towne to areas where jobs may support the residents?

I fail to see how having a transition house for the homeless will make sense in Terwillegar Towne. Please help me make some sense of this.

Is this open to community discussion for rezoning of the area? Or is it already zoned for transitional housing for the homeless?

Thank you,

Michael Shandro
