OFFLINE | has this been reported on much?
President Obama will not ask Attorney General Eric Holder to end his investigation into CIA interrogation methods conducted under the Bush Administration. At a meeting with families of 9/11 victims, held after his visit to Ground Zero, the president denied the request of Debra Burlingame to ask Holder to stop the probe.
Burlingame's brother was the pilot of AA Flight 77, hijacked and forced into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. An attorney, Burlingame has been critical of the administration at times, and clearly disagrees with Holder's decision to investigate the CIA's interrogation methods.
Burlingame told the president she understood he could not tell Holder what to do, but continued,
"... that shouldn't stop you from offering your opinion. After all, we wouldn't be here celebrating today if they hadn't done their job,,,And they have the hammer of a possible indictment over their heads. Can't you at least give him your opinion?"
The president said he wouldn't, "And he turned around and walked away."
The enhanced interrogation debate rages on, especially after the bin-Laden killing. The White House insists that "no single bit of information was a deciding factor," but it is clear that the interrogation methods used yielded information leading to his whereabouts. Without that, would we have found and killed him?
Another head-scratcher might be that it seems killing bin-Laden was fine, and cause for great celebration, but waterboarding those who had information about him was not.
