Just a quick question ...

In this competition are we required to port any already available open source software onto the cloud ( for example moodle ).

Or can we also develop a new OSS on the cloud?

Thank you in advanced.

u can port an existing open source PHP application, but we will expect that you create something innovative and one that will truly make use of the cloud benefits. for instance, just showing that wordpress runs on the cloud/windows azure is not going to help you win the contest because it can be easily done already, but we expect you to be innovative and think what the cloud can help you achieve and resolve the problems one may have with current implementation.
read up more about the cloud to find out what are its benefits.

Hi

Hoong Fai is correct. In the about page, you will notice this phrase: "to take any PHP-based Open Source application from any repositories, put it on the cloud, offer it as a service and whomever that comes up with the best business concept with the best business potential will win."

The principles behind this competition are:
1. The cloud
2. PHP
3. Open Source
4. Monetization

We would like the contestants to think beyond just the technical aspects of the competition. Its not just about moving OSS applications like wordpress, joomla, sugarcrm, etc to the cloud. Its about moving them over and creatively, creating a business out of it, by offering it as a service.

We also do not limit entries to existing OSS applications only. If you already have one that you have created yourself, this competition would be a good opportunity to expose your application to the world. If you win, you will get a lot of visibility and free air time with the press to show the world how good your application/business concept is.

Hope that helps.

Regards
