This morning I was bitten on the arm by a spider, I think. It was very itchy and when I happened to glance at my arm, I saw the area was swollen, red, and hard. A friend had made me a bottle of plantain tincture (basically concentrated plantain and vodka), so I soaked a cottonball with it and taped it to my arm. Tonight, there is just a little itchiness left, but all the swelling and redness and hardness are gone. We've also grabbed plantain from the yard or field, chewed it for a second to mash the leaves and release the juice, and then made a spit-wad of it to place on bee stings. It can also be eaten in salads. Plantain grows pretty much everywhere, so familiarize yourself with this useful plant. |
