1. What are the details of written test and interview for Ph.D. admissions inthe Energy Science and Engineering Department?
A: All candidates who have received the call letter mustappear for the written test on May 10 2017. The details of the written testare:

Shortlisted candidates in the written test will have to appear for theinterview on May 11 2017.
2. What is the syllabus for the written test in Energy science and engineering?
A: The syllabus for the written test will include physics, chemistry,mathematics and general engineering subjects. Candidates will be tested forcomprehension of fundamentals. A question paper from an earlier written test isavailable here. The pattern of the question paper is changed for this round ofadmissions. Please read Point 3 carefully.
3. What is the pattern of the question paper for written test?
A: The candiates are requested to read the following carefully. Thewritten test will have two parts: Part A and Part B. Total duration of writtentest is 2 hrs.
Part A: will have objective questions covering basic 10+2 aptitudeand is for 20 marks. All questions are compulsory in Part A.
Part B: will have subjective questions from different areas. Thecandidates are required to show their working in the provided answer sheets.The candidates MUST solve ONLY 3 out of a pool of questions. Alsothe candidates must notify which questions are to be corrected by the examinersby filling the relevant question numbers on the front page of the answersheets. Failure in doing so will render the Part B invalid for the candidates.Each of the 3 questions to be solved is for 10 marks totaling to 30 marks.
4. I have some other commitment on the date of written test (May 102017), is it possible to reschedule the written test to some other date?
A: No, there is no way the written test can be rescheduled for any reason. Itwill be conducted only on the announced date.
5. I will be able to attend the written test, but will not be able to stay thenext day for the interview, since I have some other important commitments.Would it be possible to reschedule my interview?
A: If you have successfully cleared the written test and have been shortlistedfor interview, the admission committee may consider your request and conductingyour interview on the same day (May 10, 2017) if the candidate provides thenecessary proof.
6. My GATE Score card/qualifying degree certificate has not reached at my homeaddress? What shall I submit?
A: Applicant can submit the VALID GATE Score card printed from the internet/provosionalcertificate during the written test. However, during admission, applicant hasto submit the original one.
7. What are the documents required for identification?
A: Identity card showing the candidate’s name, date of birth, and aphoto.
8. If proper identification is not available, what shall we do?
A: The applicant will not be allowed to appear for the written test.
9. What are the items that can be kept in the examination hall?
A: Mobile phones or any other communication devices ARE NOT allowed in the examhall. However, non-programmable calculators WILL BE allowed. If you have amobile phone with you, we request you to turn it off or put it in silent mode,keep it in your bag and leave your bag outside the exam hall.
10. How would I know if I am shortlisted for the interview after the writtentest?
A: The list of shortlisted candidates for the interview will be displayed onthe DESE and ME notice boards. The list will also be uploaded online with thelink on the Energy Science and Engineering Department homepage. |
