 OFFLINE |
I saw them at the airport earlier this summer. I saw a bunch of longhaired dudes in a small group who talked discreetly with each other. I hardly noticed them. No pretentious diva behaviours. They seems to be very easy going and down to earth - I like that.

 OFFLINE | No, I shouldn't.
I tried to see them live too, that didn't work for me. I left after three songs.
It was ok, I went to see Pelican anyway. |

OFFLINE | Haven't like the last two albums, but like the stuff before, particularly still life and damnation. Love those two albums. |

OFFLINE | I saw Opeth playy their very first U.S. show and it was good. Saw them a year later and it sucked. I like the first 5 albums, but after that they got really boring. |

OFFLINE | I am not particular fond of metal. I think they are usually brilliant musicians and I like a lot of the the music in itself but I can't really reconcile myself to the growling, which is a big part of the metal music.
So their new "boring" style suits me just fine - I think Mikael has a brilliant voice. I assume that their early stuff is a bit heavier - I guess that's the reason why I never have bothered myself to listen to them before.
There is always a disapointment when a band takes another direction. I stopped listen to Queen during the 80s. I think they became complete *sheijt* after 1978.
I think though that's a natural process, that comes with the age. I consider though that Opeth stands for multitude. There is kind of difficult to place them in a certain musical field, maybe that's their purpose.

OFFLINE | I agree with the vocals, I actually wish he would ditch the growls. I can assure you the earlier albums had just as much clean vocals as the most recent albums. My favorite album of theirs is Damnation, which is all singing vocals and all progressive acoustic music, ala 70s prog.
The most recent albums have been boring due to the music rather than any vocal style, well to myself at least. A lot of it is rehashed ideas from previous albums, and a lack of progress or evolution in the music. Granted though they do what they do very well.

OFFLINE | A friend actually suggested the Damnation album to me, when I was about to order some CDs on the net - but I completely forgot about that one. Thanks for the reminder, lol.
What do you mean with "ditch" in this context. That he should skip the growl...? |

OFFLINE | Lisa, this topic probably would have gotten more responses in the Metal forum, or maybe not. I guess Opeth have a pretty strong fanbase, but there are a lot people who just can't get into them or find them boring.
I belong to the latter group, but there are still a few Opeth songs I like, this being my favorite:

Depends on what genre of metal. The vocals in traditional, power, progressive and doom metal are usually clean.
Based on your like of Opeth, you might enjoy some of these:
