OFFLINE | This topic is made to gather the latest info about this "missing" feature.
As a lot of people I bought a rider 50 thinking I could update the openstreetmap's and enjoy my gps on off-road tracks... (Mislead by reviews and maybe weak communication from Bryton on the subject).
Huge disappointment that I can't, if at least provided maps were detailed enough. In my area they are quite old and empty on the off-road side. Up to date maps on www.openstreetmap.org/ are much better, I want them !
For the moment the only official statement I found was a FAQ, saying "not a the moment..."
On the other forum (http://www.brytongps.com) I also read people telling they bought DVD map and got the openstreetmap instead of the navteq they were waiting for, wich is quite odd (open means free yup ?) and makes me pessimistic about a future "update open map for free" feature..
Please Bryton communicate about this
Rider 50 is a great product and I love it, but I think it would be just awesome (and financially rewarding) if Bryton made the wise choice to make it totally open for community. |

OFFLINE | Interesting that no replies are forthcoming on a issue that made many people buy a Bryton in the first place. |

 OFFLINE | Indeed...
Sad to say, but maybe that product is just waiting for a crack to be really good. |

OFFLINE | Yup, I was mislead as well.
The most annoying thing for me is that I got an version with standard maps only, no HD material at all!
It came with Western Europe but what is it good for if the maximum zoom factor shows me no details at all?
When activating my device there is talk about activating one HD zone from a DVD that was not in my package - quite annoying indeed. Seems as though I'll have to purchase the HD SD Card to get happy...
Waiting for Bryton to fulfill our needs by presenting a software that would enable us to convert OSM data ourselves could mean waiting a long time...
I hope it's not empty promises - but I also think writing on different sites on the web about this will force them to react eventually - possible buyers could be held of if they read threats like these...
Let's cross our fingers!!! |

OFFLINE | If there is no support for freely uploading OSM then what is the point of basing the Rider 50 on OSM in the first place?
Andreas is too right about potential buyers being held off by this -- I for example!
For me, the Rider 50 is out and Garmin Edge 800 literally "back on the map": I may as well buy a "naked" 800 and load it with OSM maps that *are* genuinely free. |

OFFLINE | If they want to steal a march on Garmin, why not do it for the Rider 50 users. It really is a great little unit and great price compared to Garmin... I've a feeling they could do so much more though! |

OFFLINE | It seems so strange that things like this, and two sensors required for cadence and speed have let it down |

OFFLINE | Oh and standard maps in my pack as well, not HD! |

OFFLINE | We are currently working on it and will offer a solution to let our users upload OSM to Rider 50 in Q2, 2012. |

So that would be due around April 2012? Or does your fiscal year start in October (as with a some American companies) and so Q2 would be around January? |

 OFFLINE | Hi, Andy,
Sorry for the confusion, Q2, 2011 is based on calendar year, which is April - June 2011. thanks! |

OFFLINE | Dont't be sorry - that confusion was on my side :-)
.
Thanks for that clear statement anyway - at least now we all do have an official statement and a rough timeframe on that very desired feature.
I think there is a huge market for your device if that option is included. |

 OFFLINE | Nice update
This will get more users to buy a Bryton device for a lower price. |
