They haven't got up with progressives, though he did manage to get some good legislation passed in the lame duck session.

As with any president; there are things they do that I approve of and other things I disapprove of. But here's a question I often ask people: when you disapprove of any particular president's actions or behavior, is it because of how it's affected you personally, the nation as a whole, a combination of both, or just because they're a member of your opposing party?

I try to think large-scale as I'm judging a president's performance. But there's just no way I can devote my entire life to studying all that I couldn't even imagine is involved with leading an entire country in order to make the best and informed decision. And since I can't personally see each and every thing a President sees that might influence their performance, choices, behavior, etc, then it feels like I'm judging (or rather misjudging) blindly. I remember so many attacks aimed at George Bush after 9/11/01 and I couldn't believe the conjecture, slander, and hateful things coming from all directions, and it hasn't seemed to have stopped since. I dunno, politics isn't my thing...

To be honest, part of it is how it affects me, but mostly I am thinking of how his actions (or inactions) affect the country. Not today, but down the road.

We're spending money we don't have. And that's A BAD thing. My bank would close my account if I ran it the way the government is running their account. And that's onlly the number one reason I don't approve.

For whatever reason, my employer posted a note stating that our Social Security Tax has been reduced by 2% effective 1/1/2011. With all the stories I've heard about this system going bankrupt LONG BEFORE it'll be my turn to draw on it, I just can't fathom why there's a 2% decrease in my deduction. In my best Denzel Washington voice from Philadelphia, "Can someone please explain that to me like I'm a 2 year old?"

Liberal Presidents (be they Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, or Barak Obama) have learned the hard way that if they govern from the left, their numbers go down.  The more they move to the center, the higher their numbers go.

And yet...we always get some that go into office with the idea they are going to govern from the left.  (they know better than the rest of us you see).

President Obama signed the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010.

One of the big items in that bill is that the employee portion of the Social Security Tax will be reduced to 4.2% in 2011 (in 2010 it is 6.2%).  So not EVERY-thing Obama does is bad.

So that's technically why you got the reduction in taxes.  The thinking, I feel, is that you will now take that 2% and spend it on something else.  And if enough people do that, the idea is that it will help stimulate the economy.

Now, if they'll just cut the Capital Gains tax and give more tax breaks all around.

Tax breaks almost always help stimulate the economy.  Too bad some Dems in Congress dont get that.

I can appreciate stimulating the economy. But regarding keeping Social Security strong, is the idea that economic stimulation means more jobs, and more jobs counteracts the 2% reduction in income taxes?

if he could fix one thing.. the deficit they blame on the republicans.. that has grown at a far more alarming rate since the dems took over....if they could get us out of debt with the Chinese so we could keep the leverage we had..so we could still put pressure on them to put pressure on North Korea to stop threatening South Korea.... i might have a tiny ounce of approval for this administration.  We owe China so much money now that they can sit back and tell us to **** off when we ask for favors.

...speaking of stimulation,,, Now I got the expression "**** Off" in my head and I'm trying to figure out what it means in a literal sense. How does one '**** off' another person? And if one person pisses off another, then I can see that other person being pissed off, but what's actually happening during the process of pissing off or in the state of pissed offtedness?
