Q: Do you have to be an American to receive notary services?
A: A consular officer may perform notary services for American citizen residents or travelers to Vietnam as well as for foreign national residents in Vietnam when the document is to be used in the United States. For details regarding notary services please visit: http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/notarials.html

Q: I am a US citizen and would like to get married in Vietnam.  Where can I get an Affidavit of Single Status?
A: Visit our website at http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/notarials.html for information regarding getting married in Vietnam. Please make a notary appointment on our website for the marriage ability affidavit.

Q: I want to get married with a Vietnamese in Vietnam.  What should I do?
A: You need to contact the Justice Department of the province where your Vietnamese girlfriend/boyfriend registers her/his household for specific instructions and forms.  Different Justice Departments may ask for different documents.  Our office can help provide Affidavits of Single Status which are normally required by the local Justice Department.  Please make an appointment for this service. You will have to pay $50 for the service and. We can only accept U.S. dollars or credit card.  After that, you’ll have to bring the affidavit to the Consular Department of MFA, 40 Tran Phu, for authentication.   Then you can submit it to your provincial Justice Department.

Q: We are both American citizens.  We plan to travel to Vietnam to get married there.  Can we do that?
A: You cannot get married in Vietnam because local authorities only process marriages for foreigners who are working in Vietnam, not tourists.

Q: I have to authenticate my university diploma and criminal record check for a Vietnamese work permit.  What can you do for me?
A: You must come to our office to perform affidavits to go with your documents.  Please note that you have to submit originals or certified true copies (performed by a Notary Public in the U.S.) of your documents.  This is the requirement of the Vietnamese government.  We’ll attach the affidavits with your originals/certified true copies under grommets and you will sign on the affidavits in front of a consular officer.  Then we’ll put Embassy seals and stamps on the affidavits.  You have to pay $50 for each seal.  Please note that we only accept U.S. cash or credit cards.  After that, those papers must be authenticated by the Consular Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam (No. 40 Tran Phu Street) before you submit them to the provincial Labor Department.

Q: I’m a Vietnamese citizen.  I used to study in the U.S. and just returned to Vietnam.  Now I have to sign a Power of Attorney to assign my sister to sell my car in the U.S.  Can I do it at your office?
A: Yes, you can.  Our office can witness signatures of foreigners on documents that will be used in the United State.  You have to pay $50 for the fees.  We only accept U.S. dollars or credit cards.
