SEOUL, South Korea – North and South Korea exchanged artillery fire Tuesday after the North shelled an island near their disputed sea border, killing at least two South Korean marines, setting dozens of buildings ablaze and sending civilians fleeing for shelter.

South Korea is our ally and we are pledged to help protect them by treaty.  What,if anything, should President Obama do about this?

yeah, this looks like a succession issue, according to all the know-it-alls. as for what obama should do, it's really hard to say at this point, other than making sure it's still apparent that the u.s. has the south's back.

You are probably rght about th succession thin.  Its interesting that this has occurred only days after china Criticized the US for printing more money and devaluing our ow dollar.  This, supposedly makes the price of American goods cheaper (in China) so that the goods are more afforable.  LEast that's what I hear.

I have a feeling that as long as the dictatorship remains in that family, there’s gonna be trouble.  Sanctions don’t work.  I don’t know anyone who wants to invade or go to war again.  But clearly something has to be done since they are killing our allies and collaborating with our enemies.

I think the CIA should use covert means to contact some of the generals over there and rally support to overthrow the regime.  I’ve heard that some of the generals there are not happy with the leader.  Done correctly, you might be able to eliminate (yes, I mean eliminate), the leader without a full blown invasion or revolution.  And there are ways to do this without violating our policy of not assassinating foreign leaders.
