SO, by your definition of conservatism, are there actually any true conservatives left?

Good question.  There are (admittedly) variants.  Moderate, Social, Green, etc.  But I'm talking about Traditional Conservatives.

Ronald Reagan is often held to be the prototypical Conservative Republican.  But if we really want to know what a true, dyed in the wool, bonafide Traditional Conservative looks like, we should look no further than William F Buckley or Barry Goldwater.   Both were huge conservatives who did a lot for the conservative movement.  And I'm not sure ANYone measures up to those fellas.  Even Reagan.  But I think Reagan came closest in modern times.

Living Conservatives?  Eh...not many.  JC Watts was a good one.  Alan Keyes is another.  (Interesting that both are black).  Fred Thompson.  Bill Bennett is a pretty good example too.

Bachman probably comes closest in this race.  Probably Rich Santorum too.
