Alan has already set down some decent rules.
Beyond that, yep ... that may and will happen. But whether or not someone else is a crappy forum mod is not my problem. My problem is dealing with my forum, not yours, nor anybody else's.
Leadership 101 teaches one that you can't have the responsibility without the authority.
If someone's a crappy forum mod, nobody will hang around their forum and it'll go dark. Meanwhile, those who are good will rise to the top.
It's forum "natural selection."
No Supreme Court necessary. "The People" will decide which forums succeed and fail through their participation. |

Sorry, but not so. Same with the old MySpace groups.
MySpace Groups was (and will be) one group ban at a time, only affecting entrance to one group. But the Forums have always been you get banned in one and you are banned from all. Thankfully I'd never been banned, but I've seen it enough to know people routinely got banned for no actual TOS infraction. Just a bug up a particular mods ass ( a few times, it wasn't even the mod from that board, it was one swooping in from another forum) and POOF! You can't post in any forum and that's just wrong.
I lurked almost every forum there, but only posted in a small few (frankly, it took me a couple/few years to post in any other forum than the Metal one) because I was watching that kind of **** go down in multiple forums and I wasn't about to risk a ban with my sarcastic, opinionated, big mouth.

OFFLINE | Hello, I've been reading these posts and this suggestion on the ban button which is ABSOLUTELY necessary is by far the best:
"Or perhaps you might set it up so that each Forum creator decides whether or not to empower the Moderator with such a privilege for their forum." Scott Terry
As you can see I am a "newbie" to forums but not to Facebook. I really appreciate the ability to have a forum~ I know from the group page that the ban button has to be in place. Not everyone will adhere to rules of the road unfortunately.
Thank you for your time

What I simply cannot find is admin tools and
Moderation
Editing
Pinning
Deleting
I have looked high and low for the Admin tools and info on moderation, where is it please?
Does the forum creator have special tools other than setting up the forum?
Thank you so much for your time~

OFFLINE | If you created a forum you will see some links on this page (on the left): http://www.facebookforums.net/create-a-forum-on-facebook/
Simply click the link "Click here to visit your forum" on that page.
Next, If users (or you) created topics in your forum click one of them.
You will see the moderation tools.

I agree with this, sometimes it's nice/fun to make a 'clicky' say "clicky". |

OFFLINE | Alan, I posted this in forum needs and then saw this thread which more closely fit my requests.
Sorry for the double post. But something on my other post made me worried... on that post... my first one here on this forum it showed a ridiculous post and topic number... in the thousands.
I basically have taken our forum from forumotion to here and they had certain features there that were really handy for mods to use. Also being able to change the look or skin of the forum made it more unique. I understand that there are more pressing matters to deal with than mere cosmetics although that is also important in luring users over.
Some requests I have deals specifically with moderation issues.
- Can multiple mods please be added.
- Also deleted posts - can they be put in a basket category only visible by admin or mods for possible review or restoration?
- Same for banning - could there be a warning system or a review mechanism for banning - suspension pending review and banning? A way of restoring membership if need be?
- Also a membership list of members. Could admin access a list of members to send messages or a news event specifically to members? It would also be possible to view which members are active and who has not logged into the forum for a certain amount of time.
- As for not deleting posts but moving it to another category. Is it possible to give such a mod tool to admins or mods? If a post is made in an incorrect category moving it to the proper category should be more simple for mods.
I'm sorry that all seems a lot of work for you guys... it is awesome as it is! Just some ideas of what could be...
ETA: on my screen it shows the number of my posts http://apps.facebook.com/facebook_forums/forum_needs-790.html here to be:
Posts: 4294967295 !!! This is definitely my first on this forum... |

OFFLINE | Alan, I know I'm bugging you to death with this request, but could we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change the "My Topics" to include every thread we have posted in and not just the ones we start?
I've lost several threads I was talking/posting in already because they fell from the "Last Threads" page, I did not start the thread and I have NO CLUE which of the dozens and dozens of forums on the Main English forum they were posted in. Especially with the spam going down. It is getting frustrating to post here now because of this.
Thanks! |
